Key words prison culture, inmate subculture, free world, case studies. Introduction Culture as defined in Oxford Dictionary tells that it is the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society. Therefore the term Prison Culture refers to the ideas, customs and behavior of the prison community. In this world, there have always been two types of humans either they are free to do what they desire or they are at heart the bars not allowed to go their well. Culture therefore also becomes divided into two types the culture of free humans and the culture of prisoners. The paper aims at describing the later type. Prison Culture is the net combined behavior of the inmates of a prison. The paper has attempted to analyze the prison culture after studying the ways in which the prisoners react. Prison Culture can be b est understood keeping in view an expanded volume of gas where there are atoms frequently meandering(a) here and there, with no destiny, with no desire, with no ambition. They are scattered and same is the situation with prisoners. Like the atoms, they have no ideals to abide by. There is a severalize of confusion prevailing everywhere. The AIC test tool is therefore best applicable to adults. This suitability is supported by research which indicates that AIC test is more sensitive in diagnosing adults accurately compared to adolescents. The application of the findings of this study to adults simply entails making a shift from the use of the fasting blood glucose tests to using AIC tests when diagnosing diabetes among adults.... The AIC test enables physicians diagnose patients who are diabetic faster and more comprehensively. Professional Roles and Values Essay Example for Free

Professional Roles and Values EssayA. Promoting Interdisciplinary CareWhen think abouts promote collaborative interdisciplinary care, they are ensuring the availability and accessibility of quality health care (ANA, 2010). As the nursing supervisor in this clinical setting, I would hold a staff meeting with the family nurse practitioner (FNP), nurse, licensed vocational nurse (LVN), nutritionist, and social worker. I would ask them to speak about their areas of expertise and explain how their knowledge will enhance this clinical team. The nutritionists expertise in diet, the social workers fluency in Spanish, the LVNs training in education, and the nurses specialization in community health are all attributes that will promote the delivery of quality unhurried care. In this meeting, I give examples of how the specialized training and resources of these individuals will improve patient care and ease the workload of other staff members. I foster an open discussion and encourag e thoughts, feelings, and questions. I also state that if close toone has a question or concern that they do not wish to discuss in front of everyone, they can speak to me in private.B. Delegation and TeamworkAs the nurse supervisor, I would use a coaching approach to speak to Ms. W. Coaching provides a safe environment for trying different approaches to new or thought-provoking situations (Robinson-Walker, Detmer, and Schultz, 2011). I would request to curb lunch with Ms. W and at this lunch, I begin by praising her work and emphasizing her importance to this clinic. In a light-hearted and non-confrontational way, I say, I know how hard you have been working with Ms. R and you must be so frustrated I encourage a retort by asking, Why do you think she is being non-compliant? I listen to her repartees without interrupting and work into the conversation these questions Do you think its possible she does not find English? What do you think about having the social worker speak to her? The LVNs expertise in community health and her available resources would also be mentioned. I emphasize that delegating to members of the team will be in thebest interest of the patient, as well as free up some of Ms. Rs valuable time.B1. ResponsibilityThe treat Code of Ethics Provision 2 states that the nurses primary commitment is to the patient and it boost implies that nurses should actively promote collaborative multi-disciplinary planning (American Nurses Association, 2012). If Ms. W does not have time to follow through with community services that could reach Ms. R, then Ms. W has a responsibility to refer Ms. R to people who have the knowledge, resources, and time to help her.In addition to the Nursing Code of Ethics, the subject Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) states that one of the standards related to the RN scope of practice is that nurses evaluate the patients response to nursing care. They do this by evaluating the patients response to interventions , the need for alternative interventions, the need to consult with other team members, and the need to revise the plan of care (NCSBN, 2012). When Ms. W saw that the patient was not compliant, she should have reevaluated her plan of care. Ms. W can set apart to the LVN, who is experienced in prenatal education, and would be able to explain the importance of finishing antibiotic therapy or acting tests that are essential for a healthy pregnancy. If Ms. W is too busy to educate, then she is responsible for finding someone who can.B2. Recommended ResourceA resource that would benefit Ms. W in learning more about delegating is the continuing education course given by the ANA, Developing Delegation Skills. This course covers mission and the associated concepts of accountability, responsibility, and authority (Weydt, 2010). It discusses using nursing judgment and interpersonal relationships during the delegation process and at the courses end, the author speaks about how to develop del egation skills. Learning to properly delegate ultimately improves the quality of patient care.B3. Delegation OpportunitiesThe nurse in this scenario has 4 colleagues in the clinic that she can delegate to the LVN, nurse, nutritionist, and social worker. Ms. R had recurrent urinary share infections the nutritionist can review her food and fluid intake and the LVN can teach prenatal care based on the nutritionists paygrade and recommendations. The nurse in the clinic can explore community resources that may be available to assist Ms. R. The social worker, however, is the most important person in these collaborations because it is presumptive that Ms. R does not understand English and needs an interpreter. The social worker is fluent in Spanish and her presence will not only bring on the comfort level of Ms. W, but will assure that she is receiving the required information that is pertinent to her pregnancy.ReferencesAmerican Nurses Association. Obesity in America Essay Example for Free

Obesity in America EssayDid you know that between 1980 and the course 2000, the obesity rates had doubled among adults in America ? near 30% of the adult population in America is suffering from obesity . Since 1980 , overweight rates have doubled among children and adults . Most flock still do not practice fit behaviors that tail prevent obesity because they atomic number 18 lazy. More than 50% of American adults do not institute the recommended join of visible bodily process to provide wellness benefits . More than a third of young people in grades nine twelve do not regularly manoeuver in vigorous physical activity . If more people in America would issue forth out and do physical activities then this could reduce the amount of obese people and they could live happier and healthier .If people do not beat lusty and lack physical activity , then they may get diabetes and lead obese . One cause of people in America becoming obese is because they do not eat healthy . If they would eat healthy then they would not have such high cholesterol and they would live a little longer . People should start eating more healthy nutrients such as fruits , vegetables , and non-artificial foods . These foods can be purchased at the local grocery store , gas station , and even at food market .These foods ar norm eachy cheaper than the other fatty foods and fast food restaurants , such as McDonalds , Burger King , and artificial foods that contain grease . Fast food restaurants atomic number 18 one of the main causes of obesity because people love it and are addicted to it . People can get addicted to these restaurants very smooth because it is quick , easy , taste good , and they do not have to do dishes . What these people dont realize is what this food is doing to their bodies until they take a look at a scale and see that they have put on a massive amount of wait due to totally the calories they have taken in .While these products might look appealing and tasty , they contain a wealth of hidden health hazards which are not besides dangerous if eaten in large quantities but are a major cause of obesity , especially in children . For example , Super Size Me is a 2004 American accusative film directed by Morgan Spurlock . Spurlocks film follows a 30 day period from February 1 to March 2 , 2003 during which he eats scarcely McDonalds food . The film documents this lifestyles drastic effect on Spulocks physical and psychological well being , and explores the fast food industrys corporate influence , including how it encourages poor nutrition for its own profit . Spurlock dined at McDonalds restaurants three times per day , eating all item on the chains menu .Spulock consumed an average of 9 Big Macs per day during the experiment . As a result , the 32 year hoar man gained 24 lbs , and a cholesterol level of 230 . He experienced mood swings , sexual dysfunction , and fat accumulation in his colored . It took Spulock fourteen mo nths to lose the weight gained from his experiment using a vegan diet supervised by his future wife , a chef who specializes in gourmet vegan dishes .The reason for Spulocks investigation was the increasing spread of obesity throughout U . S society , which the Surgeon General has declared epidemic and the corresponding causal agency brought against McDonalds , it was alleged , became obese as a result of eating McDonalds food Spurlock points out that although the lawsuit against McDonalds failed . Subsequently many separate legislatures have legislated against product liability actions against producers and distributors of fast food . Much of the same criticism leveled against tobacco companies applies to fast food franchises whose product is both physiologically addictive and physical harmful . Eating fast food can be very harmful to the human body . Fast food is a dire choice to go and can be extremely dangerous if you dont watch what , and how much you eat .Another cause of obesity can lack of physical exercise . Not exercising can be a reason why people put on weight because they do not burn any of the fat that they gain . People are so lazy now days and are addicted to electronics such as televison , video games , radio , computers , and etc . These electronics are killing Americans slowly because they forget all about going outdoors and doing something physical . Since the year 2000 , they have developed so much electronics and robots for our society that we do not have to do any work which leads us to laziness . Both diet and physical activity playact a critical role in directling your weight . You gain weight with the calories you burn , including those burned during physical activity, less than calories you eat or throw .When it comes to weight management , people vary greatly in how much physical activity they need . You may need to be more restless than others to achieve or maintain a healthy weight . Regular physical activity is one of th e most important things you can do for your health . For example , you dont have to spend much time with teenagers to know that the average adolescent would rather devote an afternoon to sitting in front of the tv , computes , or video games console than working out .In recent years , as physical education classes have been more and more cut from cash strapped public school curriculums , teens have had even more time to lounge , slouch , hangout , or do anything but ease up a sweat . In simple terms , body weight is a reflection of the balance between twain variables the calories a body takes in and the calories it burn off . As fa as the average U . S teen is concerned , the study suggests , the culprit behind weight gain is not decease in exercise but an increase consumption . Of course , that doesnt mean teens are getting adequate exercise . Analyzed entropy from nearly 16,000 high school students between ages of fifteen and eighteen , who took part in the CentersFor Disease Control and Prevention s longitudinal Youth try Behavior Surveillance Survey , about their physical . He and his team found that in 2007 , only 34.7% of teens met federal physical activity recommendations , which call for activity strenuous enough to cause heavy breathing for a total of an hour a day for five or more days a week . An effect of eating fast food and lack of physical activities is getting diabetes . Diabetes is a disease where your treatment plan may need to be adjusted over time . For people with slip 2 diabetes whose blood sugar is uncontrolled , adding insulin replaces what your body isnt adequately making to garter control blood sugar .Regardless of how you feel about your diabetes , its important to get your blood sugar under good control . Along with a computer program of diet , exercise and other diabetes medicine . Insulin may help you improve you blood sugar control . There are ii shells of this disease , type one and type two , which is also called ons et diabetes . The first type , type one diabetes , cant be prevented because people who have this type are innate(p) with a compromised pancreas . These people have to rely on insulin injections throughout their life to maintain reasonably favorable health . People with type two diabetes develop this condition over time and have to rely on oral medication and in some cases insulin injections .People with adult onset diabetes were born with a healthy pancreas but they were either born with a susceptibility to the disease o other factors played a role in the instruction of the problem. The primary reason why people with a healthy pancreas develop this disease is poor diet , being overweight and sedentary lifestyle . These are all factors a mortal can control and limit his or her chance of developing this condition . The main reason people develop type two diabetes is because they become overweight . People who do not exercise and lead sedentary lifestyle are prone to developing type two . There is some evidence that adult onset type can be reversed , or at least controlled . Another effect of not eating healthy and lack of physical activity is becoming obese .Becoming obese is not a very good thing because on that point are many types of dangerous things that can happen any given moment . People that become obese also miss out on a lot of events and fun activities . They are limited of what they can do because they are so overweight that they cant move fast , they need help getting things and showering . They also may no longer eat certain foods anymore because it contains too much sugar . People should watch their weight and what they eat originally they become overweight and have to live this way and trust me this is not the way to live . Just ask 43 year old , Shannon Cooper .Shannon Cooper had been living a normal life with her children of three . She had been so lazy and didnt want to do anything because she had forced her three children to do all the c hores around the house . Well 3 years later Shannon had to pay the price for all this because little did she know , she had a low metamorphosis and put on an enormous amount of weight . She had been eating McDonalds almost every day and didnt find anything wrong with eating all this fast food .All the food had went straight to her body and she is now bed bound and cant shower own her own , get up and move around , or even use the restroom by herself . She now has her three kids feeding her , bathing her , and she has to urinate into a shaping bag mounted on the side of her heavy duty bed . Reporters say that Shannon will never live the same life as she had before unless she has liposuction done and that is something she cant afford . She is also unemployed because her leg structure cant support all of her massive weight she has gained to get up and mesh around .Reporters asked her if she could go back three years , would she do it all over again and she said no . Shannon says its not worth all of the stress and embarrassment to her and her children . This story is hash so it should change anybodys mind about their diet and what they eat . People may get diabetes and become obese if they do not get enough exercise or physical activity . People in America should watch what they eat if they do not want to end up like some of these people and be bed bound for possibly the rest of their lives . They do not only hurt themselves by doing this to their body , but they hurt their loved ones and the people around them , because they cant spend time with t hey family and friends .They are always maladjusted that maybe you will seriously injure yourself someday or possibly loose you by death . If our society really care about the people around them then they will not only help themselves watch their health , but they would help other people on their diet and stock them to get more exercise in by running or going to the gym . It is amazing by how the slightest things can change a person life by taking a little walk around the block once a day or even once a week . Just always remember that exercise and a little more vegetables or fruit can change ones life for them and others around them . exert Cited1) http/www./imdb.com/title/tt03905212)http//www.ahrq.gov/ppip/activity.htm3)http//health.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/overview.html 4)http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/obesity_in_america5)http//www.dimensionsmagazine.com/dimtext/kin/people/heavie.htm
